Pictou County Ribfest 2020 Update

Bringing Back the Rack in August 2021

NEW GLASGOW, NS, May 27, 2020 – Organizers of Pictou County Ribfest announced today that they have shifted to planning for 2021 amid the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The organizing committee recognizes the potential for preventive measures such as practicing physical distancing and limiting social gatherings to extend well into the Summer months. “This was a very difficult decision,” says Lori-Anna Jenkins, Co-Chair of the organizing committee. “We are so grateful for the support and enthusiasm that Pictou County demonstrated for this event last year, but we know we have a responsibility to do what we can to protect our community, visitors, vendors, sponsors, artists, and volunteers. We want to be part of the solution of this crisis.” While August seems far away, a great deal of planning and work is done in the months leading up to an event of this size, making it necessary to come to this decision now.

Organizers are shifting planning activities to focus on August 2021, with a goal of continuing to grow in terms of the number of ribbers, vendors and visitors, creating an even more engaging event for the community.

Pictou County Ribfest is a community-focused event that brings people together for food and entertainment while raising money for local charities through donations from patrons, raffle tickets, sponsors, beverage tent, and more. Viola’s Place Society Homeless Shelter and Habitat for Humanity Pictou County were grateful recipients of funds raised in 2019 and were slated to receive funds from this year’s event as well.
